AMPLIFY HORSE RACING
MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

MENTEE APPLICATIONS REOPEN JANUARY 7, 2022

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Amplify Horse Racing Mentorship Program will pair young adults (mentees) who are interested in potentially pursuing a Thoroughbred industry career, with experienced industry professionals (mentors).

These pairings are meant to educate about the Thoroughbred industry and develop an understanding for its nuances; teach important skills and knowledge needed to pursue a job or career; and facilitate meaningful conversations between experienced professionals and newcomers about the realities of employment in the Thoroughbred industry.

The objectives of the program are to improve accessibility into the Thoroughbred industry, and develop understanding of what it is like to work in the sport by leveraging the passion, knowledge and experience of current industry professionals.

The initial pilot program has facilitated 12 mentor-mentee pairings through a hybrid mentorship approach: Virtual meetings for mentors and mentees who live a distance apart, which removes geographic or transportation barriers that could limit interested young adults from connecting with the Thoroughbred industry, along with in-person meetings and engagement for those who live in the same state or for mentees who wished to travel to meet their mentor.

The Amplify Horse Racing Mentorship Program is open to individuals aged 18-22*, who demonstrate a desire to learn and a strong interest in working in the Thoroughbred industry. There are no restrictions based on academic achievement or industry experience.

The initial mentorship program, which Amplify Horse Racing is using as a pilot, will take place from August-October 2021. Upon completion of the program, feedback will be gathered from participants to assess the viability of offering the program multiple times annually and including youth mentees.

POTENTIAL MENTEE APPLICANTS

ELIGIBILITY

*The suggested age range for participation is 18-22, and you must be a resident of the United States. There are no restrictions based on academic achievement or Thoroughbred industry experience. Are you outside of this age range? Send Amplify an email and we’ll further discuss your eligibility!

APPLICATION DEADLINE & INTERVIEWS

Mentee applications reopen January 7, 2022. Prospective mentors are welcome to apply at any time.

IDEAL CANDIDATES

The ideal candidate would be one who has a strong interest in working in the Thoroughbred industry, but has limited experience or knowledge about how to get involved. Those with a strong general equine interest who would like to learn more about working in the Thoroughbred industry are also welcome to apply.

MENTORSHIP PAIRINGS

Mentorship pairings will be made based on perceived compatibility between a mentee’s areas of interest in the Thoroughbred industry and their mentor’s career field.

TIME REQUIREMENT

In total, Amplify Horse Racing estimates that the program will require a minimum of 6 hours from mentees.

Once selected, mentors and mentees will be provided a virtual introduction by Amplify Horse Racing, and will meet a minimum of once per month for three months. Upon completion of the final meeting, mentees will be asked to meet with Amplify to provide feedback about their experience, and all mentor/mentee pairs will participate in a virtual sendoff assembly. Mentors and mentees will determine the dates and the duration of their meetings.

HYBRID MENTORSHIP

The Amplify Horse Racing Mentorship Program uses a hybrid mentorship approach, facilitating both in-person and virtual meetings between mentors and mentees.

COST

There is no fee for mentees to participate.

DISCLAIMER

Amplify Horse Racing Inc. nor any mentors involved in the program are obligated to provide transportation to or from any meetings, or to cover any costs associated with the virtual or in-person meetings. All transportation and potential costs of meetings are the sole responsibility of the mentees.
